Nom du directeur ou de la directrice : Mr. Christoph Becker As a very small rural school, our teachers are constantly struggling to promote successful reading programs suitable for a large number of reluctant readers. Approximately 30% of our student population is reading significantly below their grade level. Of this amount, a large number are older students who are experiencing daily difficulties.
Our school library is extremely deficient in high/interest low decodability texts to encourage our most struggling readers. Our very limited budget prevents us from acquiring engaging books at levels that our students can decode and read with understanding. We strive to encourage our students to become skilled and proficient readers, but we are restricted by our lack of suitable resources. We are in desperate need of securing appropriate reading materials to enhance our school library reading programs.
We look forward with great anticipation for any assistance that your program could offer us. Thank you so much for believing in the importance of books. Reading opens up so many avenues in the lives of our students. Bravo to you!!!

Livres préférés Our little population of Kindergarten to Grade two kids love "Elephant and Piggie" books - not sure exactly why, but those books are high on their priority list. They also love simple colourful non-fiction books about anything - from ants, spiders, snakes to every exotic animal that they can imagine; they love to learn facts and share their learning with us. "Captain Underpants" is still a favourite with a lot of our boys in Grades 3 to 4, as well as "Dog Man". The graphics and simple text make it appealing to those struggling readers. Reading and the love of it make a decline in the upper grades - but the non-fiction books are still the most sought after.
