Adopt us ! Adopt us !
Students, teachers and the community of l’École élémentaire catholique Saint-Jean-Baptiste would like to be adopted by the Love of Reading Foundation during the upcoming school year.
As a growing French elementary school community, we are aware of the importance of reading to help develop and maintain the French language. Our students LOVE to read. To quote one of our students in grade 3: ‘’Merci Mme Vicky pour avoir acheté des livres que nous aimons !’’ (Thank you Mme Vicky for buying us books that we love!)
We started this project to revamp our library next year. Our goal is to have an Innovative Space, which allows our students, not only to read, but also to develop their global competencies. In adopting us, you would help provide our school library with books for all children from Kindergarten to grade 6.
It is always a challenge to find books in French, but also to provide new books to every child in our school. With the help of the Love of Reading Foundation, we could fill our newly reinvented library with two new books per student. We know it is ambitious, but we believe in the cause and we can do it together!
Studies also show that reading is a great stress reliever:
''Reading Reduces Stress "Reading was proved: • 68% better at reducing stress levels than listening to music; • 100% more effective than drinking a cup of tea; • 300% better than going for a walk and • 700% more than playing video games. • Reading for as little as 6 minutes is sufficient to reduce stress levels by 60%, slowing heart beat, easing muscle tension and altering the state of mind." — Dr. David Lewis 'Galaxy Stress Research, National Reading Campaign
We are hoping that you will adopt us during the 2018-2019 school year and we are eager to work with the store who adopted us to make our dream come true!
