Adamsdale is a K-6 English Public School focused on the development of knowledge, attitudes, and skills that children need to be contributing, confident members of our community. Books are a tool to help our students achieve these goals, unfortunately, many of our books in our library were published in the 1960s to1990s. Despite our older library resources, our students are enthusiastic users of the library! For example, our grade 4/5 class recently gave our librarian a list of books they would love to see in the library.
Participating in Chapter’s “Adopt a School” program would help our school in many ways: Adamsdale is a high needs school with many of our families living in social housing. Having new and high quality books in our library would help our staff with educational programming and provide our students with reading material they may not have access to at home. We also have a large First Nations population in our school and would like to add books that reflect the history, traditions, and cultural norms of our First Nation students. Finally, we are moving a library to a new and better location in the school...where we will be creating a Maker's Space. To prepare for this move, we are currently weeding our older material and wish to replace it with newer, higher quality books that will reflect the needs of our school and the books that our students seek so they can be confident and contributing members of our community!
