Nom du directeur ou de la directrice : Karen Koop We still love books and can always use more! Though much of what we read for information (including this message) can be read online, our students still love and appreciate experiences with books.

Our school library contains a decent number of picture books, novels and non-fiction texts, but many of them are old or damaged after years of enjoyment. Yet our students visit the library often and are typically looking for something new, current and popular. With a very small library budget each year, we rely heavily on purchase credits from Scholastic Books, credits that we earn from hosting an annual Book Fair. While this helps us keep a small flow of new books coming in each spring, we are very limited by what is offered through Scholastic, especially for our senior students who have more select and specific tastes when it comes to reading.

Our Early Fiction section (picture books) needs major updating. Primary students are our most enthusiastic book borrowers and yet we often don't have what they are looking for. In the past we have resorted to purchasing soft cover books, to keep costs down, but this results in a shorter book life, especially for popular titles.

The non-fiction section of our library is the second-most circulated collection of books. Many of these books contain facts and information that are outdated. We very much need current, curriculum-related research materials as well as high-interest themed texts and recent biographies.

We also need to augment our dual language and culturally relevant book collection for our growing population of English Language Learners.

We are hoping that our community can come together during the Adopt a School campaign to support our Armstrong students as they continue their journey as life-long readers.
