Maude Clifford Public School

Grande Prairie, Alberta 401 / 400 livres donnés

Nom du directeur ou de la directrice : Tracey Mark Maude Clifford is entering it's 10th year of operation, and as our original collection ages and popular books and series need to be replaced due to normal wear and tear, it is becoming costly and increasingly difficult in these tough school budget years to update and maintain our K-6 library collection without supplementing the budget with fundraising dollars.

Our school library is so important to the students at this community school, and in so many cases it is the only access they have to books. And although there is a great deal of research being done online in upper elementary, that doesn't mean that all students know how to find that information, or that they will find appropriate information. Our kids still need to learn how to use books for research, and also to get excited about books just for fun.

As Maude Clifford transitions from a traditional library to a learning commons, we will also be focusing on filling the gaps in our fiction and non-fiction collection. We've identified a specific need to add more books about First Nations, Metis & Inuit culture; Canadian heritage, politics, historical figures, inventions and innovations at grade 5/6 level; non-fiction animal books for grade 2/3 research projects; books that illustrate and enhance our monthly virtue studies for all ages; books that support the curriculum for all ages; and most importantly, we need more of the books that students themselves are asking for.

Last year with the help of our Maude Clifford families and the Indigo Adopt-a-School program we were able to add an extra $300 worth of books to the school library. We are so grateful for all the donations we received through this program, and are excited to be participating once again this year!

It is with your support that we are able to continue to foster a love of reading, and keep working toward making our library exciting and vital for our students.
