One of our school goals is literacy. During homeroom, teachers either model silent reading or share a read aloud with their students. As a result of this initiative, students flock to our library to sign out books, use the chromebooks to research a topic shared during the read aloud, or to sit on a bean bag chair with a peer and discuss the latest book they are reading. We encourage and support our students love of reading by trying to provide a variety of books, for all levels of learners. As Dr. Seuss wrote “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” And the love of reading will allow students to go many places.

My mother was the force behind which my love of reading began. As a little girl, my mother was always reading to me. Pictures books littered the floor in our home. If she didn't have time to read to me, she would insist that my older sisters did. She took all three of her daughters to the ...
I am proud to be a Hernewood teacher. We have quite the crew of voracious readers. I would love our library to be able to purchase more newer YA novels, as well as duplicates of some of our most popular library books so that students can access them sooner.
