Hamilton, Ontario 140 / 200 livres donnés

Nom du directeur ou de la directrice : Anahid Ehab Hanna Elkes We are a French catholic school serving the Hamilton community below the escarpement on Cumberland by Gage Park. Our students are not learning French, they LEARN IN French, though we do have students that follow a French equivalent program to ESL. Times are not always easy as many of our students come from low-income families, which is sometimes hard for parents to purchase books; so they rely on the school library to provide theirs kids with the necessary tools to learn. We also have many students with learning difficulties. For this reason much of our budget, which could go towards purchasing new books for the library or music goes towards programs that assist with these challenges such as our healthy snacks program. Our students have a love for reading but unfortunately many of our books are over 30 years old and damaged. It is always an exciting day when the librarian is able to share the few new books we purchase on our tight budget. They love coming to the library and giving their ideas about the books they like to read whether it is about cooking, animals, sports, Geronimo Stilton or new comic strips like plants vs zombies, les sisters or Angry Birds. The librarian always tries to introduce them to subjects that would interest them at their reading level. She gets just as excited, when they come back and tell her that they enjoyed the book and they would like to read another one. Of course, all these books are in French and sometimes it gets hard to find French books in Ontario. Therefore on her days off, the librarian tries to go and visit different Chapters stores around the GTA to see what they have to offer and makes note of interesting books that would fit into the library. Being a French school in Ontario, and trying to find quality french books is not always easy. Most of the time it's very difficult. We do have English lessons from grade 4 to grade 8 and our selection of english books is also outdated. Being chosen for this program with Chapters would be a great help. It could help us fill the library with interesting books that would help to keep kids involved in reading either in english or french.

Livres préférés I asked the students what were their favorite books. They love to read Tom Gates, The thief of always, Allie Finkle's, Divergent series, Dork Diaries, Wonder and spirit animals.
