Nom du directeur ou de la directrice : Terri Smith George Jay is an inner city school in Victoria, BC, with a demographically, culturally, and linguistically diverse population (we have 27 languages represented in our student population). Our school population has more than doubled in the last 7 years, and immigrants and refugees from Syria, Africa, and the Middle East have accounted for many of the new families we have welcomed into our school. We are projected to continue to grow our school population, at the moment we are expecting at least 90 new students next year in kindergarten alone. Additionally, we recently became a dual-track school and currently have French Immersion classes in grades K-3. We have a high number of First Nations students as well as a population of students who come from families well below the poverty line. One of our school goals is to improve fiction and non-fiction reading. Our hope is to provide access to engaging books for students with limited English language proficiency and encourage the love of reading in all of our students.
